Cottage Concerts

 

Andries currently works as a business and process consultant, but he is also a multi-talented interior designer, amateur photographer, and 3rd generation cake artist.  His grandmother used to create the finest sugar creations, typical of the 50’s and 60’s. His mother created numerous wedding and celebration cakes and tough sugar art classes.  It was unavoidable that he would start on this path after obtaining the skills under the guidance of his mother.

Thomas is a musician, obtained his “Degré fin d’etude” at the National Conservatory of Lyon in France, where he studied for a year in 1997/98. He then completed his BMUS performance degree, cum laude, at the University of Pretoria in 2002. He, teaches music, and performs regularly and is the co-creator of Cottage Concerts and the creator of the classical group, Trio ’de Musique. He also created Home of Bliss, where he teaches yoga, and practice as a holistic and sound healer.

They ae married and live in a beautiful cottage in the Blouberg area in Cape Town.  Their home is also the base for all their multi-dimensional businesses, which includes Sweet Petals, Cottage Concerts, as well as the Blue Plate Café and The Home of Bliss.

Sweet Petals (Since 2016)

Sweet Petals is as a home-based industry which focusses on quality home-baked cakes, wedding and celebration cakes, rich, dark Christmas cakes, biscotti, designer biscuits, various cakes, and specialty products such as Olive Marmellata and Chocolate Olive Truffles.

 Cottage Concerts (Since 2019)

Cottage Concerts started when they bought the cottage in 2019.  Within the intimacy of their home, they host up to 15 guests for concerts performed by Trio ‘de Musique. Andries usually serves refreshments and even sit-down dinners as part of these events.

The Blue Plate Café (Since 2023)

A “blue plate meal or special” is briefly referred to as an affordable meal of the day, which changes regularly.  Andries serves guest in beautiful vintage crockery and cutlery in their candle-lit dining room. The food is mainly vegetarian such as soups, boboti, lasagna, curries, vegetable tarts, and various deserts. Meat options and catering also available on special request.
